Woodland wildflower that produces a showy white flower hidden beneath large, lobed leaves. Plants reach a height of 1'-1.5' and spread slowly through rhizomes but go dormant in the summer. Prefers part to full shade and tolerates a variety of soil conditions. Once the flowers are spent, plants produce edible "mayapples" that can be used in preserves and jellies.
