Strawberry - Fragaria vesca (Alpine Strawberry)
A small-fruited, ever-bearing wild strawberry. Compact, stemless, plant that spreads indefinitely by runners that root as they go. Numerous small, five-petaled white flowers with yellow centers appear throughout summer. Tri-foliate, coarsely-toothed leaves. Showy flowers are followed by edible, bright red strawberries (1/2" long) that may be harvested throughout summer. Flowers and fruit are usually simultaneously present on plants in summer. Best grown in humusy, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun (best for fruiting) to partial shade. Deer tolerant. .25-.75'H x .75-1'W. USDA Zones 5-9.
