Pelargonium (Scented Geranium) - Best in Stock

$9.95

Scented geraniums are shrubby, fragrant, evergreen plants; they may be species or cultivars, each having a clear and distinct scent. Five general scent categories are rose, mint, lemon/citrus, fruit & nut, and pungent. The plants feature lobed, toothed, incised, or variegated foliage and clusters of small, showy flowers (typically pink to white, in spring). The scent is emitted when the leaves are touched or bruised. Leaves are used medicinally, in cooking, for potpourri, aromatherapy, and perfumery. The scent of some species can act as a deterrent to grazing animals and as an attractant for beneficial pollinators. In the ground, scented geraniums should be grown in organically rich, well-drained soils with medium moisture and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water regularly during the growing season. Best in full sun but appreciates light shade in the heat of the day. Pinching stems promotes flowering and helps maintain a neat, bushy form. May be grown as an annual or can be overwintered in frost-free areas: (1) as a houseplant by bringing containers indoors in fall before frost and placing in a bright but cool window with reduced watering, or (2) as a dormant plant by bringing containers inside before first frost and placing them in a cool, dark, frost-free area (e.g., basement or garage). Drought-tolerant. 1-3'H x 1-2'W. USDA Zones 10-11.
